Every flower deserves a stage
Timo Koopman rose from employee to owner of Berghroos Bloembinders in just four years. Several times a week, he drives from Purmerend to Ede. “I really enjoy the excitement of the auction clock early in the morning. It’s well worth getting up early for.”
At Berghroos, you won’t find oversized, tightly packed bouquets. Timo, co-owner Annemieke, and their colleagues Stephanie and Esther carefully select every stem so that each flower gets the attention it deserves. Because Timo believes every flower deserves its moment to shine, he travels to Plantion two or three times a week to buy his standout flowers at the best possible price.
“Driving to Ede and sitting in the auction room takes a bit more time, but the benefits are significant. You don’t overpay, and you can take your purchases with you immediately. I leave home at 4:00 a.m., because if I leave any later, I’m guaranteed to get stuck in traffic. Once the auction is over and the flowers I’ve bought are being prepared for collection, I always take a walk through the wholesale centre as well. That’s where I pick up flowers that aren’t sold through the auction clock, along with ribbon and wrapping paper. By 11:00 a.m., I’m back at the shop with everything I need. Everything comes together at Plantion. For me, it’s the perfect solution!”
