PLANTION RECORDED 8.5 PER CENT SALES INCREASE IN 2024

In a year of global turmoil and unrest in the floriculture industry, Plantion steadily continued to innovate, connect and inspire. Last year, sales rose 8.5 per cent to 109.5 million euros. Despite sharply increasing costs, we managed to stay in the black, as was revealed last night during the Annual General Member’s Meeting in Ede.

Chairman René Willemsen welcomed just under 100 attendees to the auction hall. Such a large turnout, he said, indicates a high level of member engagement at Plantion: “This is important because these are challenging times with many negative stories coming out about flowers and plants. We are convinced this industry makes the world a more beautiful place. The key is to tell consumers the real story.”

Annual figures 2024
Managing director André van Kruijssen explained the 2024 figures. The 8.5 per cent increase in product sales was mainly accounted for by intermediation (+15 per cent). Auction clock sales rose 2 per cent. Within the clock, the online share (KOA, KVV) increased again.
In 2024, Plantion faced a sharp increase in costs, but higher service sales meant we still ended the year with a positive result. The members discharged the board for its policies.

Member loan
An update of the cooperative’s statutes was also on the agenda. The main change is an adjustment to the member loans. Before, this was capped at €30,000 per member; but now the loan is unlimited. This change helps Plantion in two ways: increased opportunities to invest in Plantion’s future with its own funds, and more direct involvement of members in those investments. Members agreed to these adjustments.

State of affairs 2025
For 2025 and after, André van Kruijssen declared the following important goals: increasing the product range, making the chain more sustainable, increased use of data and professionalising intermediation. With specific customer teams for florists, garden centres and retail, Plantion aims to serve its customers even better. Finding sufficient distribution staff remains a concern.
Major ongoing projects include the new information platform My Plantion, the transition to another auction system, the phasing out of EAB and the implementation of Power BI. Product sales up until June are aligned with those of 2024.

Ivo Putman
After the general meeting, René Willemsen gave the floor to Ivo Putman, the energetic presenter of Dutch TV show De Grote Tuinverbouwing which Plantion works with. For Plantion, Ivo is the face of floriculture; he translates the growers’ love and passion to consumers. He does this, for example, with the ‘Plant of the Month’ which focuses on one particular plant. This way, Plantion can provide the positive story with an audience and support its buyers in selling flowers and plants.
